Come experience the joy of frame drumming with Dr. Caron Collins, Professor Emerita of The Crane School of Music. Frame drumming has a rich and ancient history, dating back to at least 2380 BCE in Mesopotamia. It is one of the oldest percussion instruments and has been used in musical celebrations and ritual ceremonies across diverse cultures and regions. In recent times, frame drumming has experienced a modern revival, with musicians, healers, and educators exploring its diverse possibilities and uses.
Dr. Collins, brings her frame drum playing and teaching experience to the North Country of New York. In this engaging introductory workshop, she will lead you in a hands-on experience with the basic techniques of frame drumming and group music-making. You will have the opportunity to play authentic Arabic instruments such as the Daff, Katim, Sagats, and a variety of Tars. It’s easy to learn and fun to play the rhythmic patterns of Persian-style frame drumming. No previous musical experience is required. Bring your own frame drum or use one of Dr. Collins’ varieties of frame drums and instruments.
