Join SLC Arts and Teaching Artist Beth Robinson for a multi-part Alexander Technique workshop series! This class is specifically curated to musicians but will benefit artists of any background.

Join us to explore how our learned habits and the language we use in playing affect our artistic experience. Through partner and group activities, you'll cultivate awareness of tension, beneficial for both practice and performance. Time permitting, we'll also delve into a brief masterclass to witness these concepts in action.

Recommend that students bring a yoga pad or thick towel, and a 1" thick book for a prop.

Dates: Saturdays, March 23, 30, April 6 and 13th from 3 to 4:30pm.

Location: 45 Market Street AND Creative Spirit Community Arts Center at 6-8 Raymond Street in Potsdam, NY. The location for this class will shift after the March 23 meeting, when we have moved back into our permanent location

Register at slcartscouncil.org/education. $40 registration per participant (equivalent to $10 per session)

THANK YOU TO COAKLEY HOME AND HARDWARE IN CANTON FOR THEIR SPONSORSHIP OF THIS PROGRAM!

What is the Alexander Technique? According to the official website:

The Alexander Technique is a way to feel better and move in a more relaxed and comfortable way. An Alexander Technique teacher shows you how to move with less stress on your body. The Alexander Technique is for you if you are ready to feel more comfortable in your daily activities.

The Alexander Technique can also help you if:

  • You suffer from repetitive strain injury or carpal tunnel syndrome.
  • You have a backache or stiff neck and shoulders.
  • You become uncomfortable when sitting at your computer for long periods of time.
  • You are a singer, musician, actor, dancer or athlete and feel you are not performing at your full potential.
